Personal Care Aide
PRIMARY FUNCTION/GENERAL PURPOSE

Provides care to assigned clients under the direction of a Licensed Practical Nurse and/or a Registered Nurse and in accordance with the objectives, policies, and procedures of CENN, Inc. (CENN)

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate of a DMAS approved PCA training program
  • High School Graduate or equivalent GED or actively enrolled in an accredited GED program
  • Current valid Virginia driver’s license, and a DMV driving record acceptable to our insurance company
  • CPR certification preferred
  • Current active Virginia car insurance
  • Must demonstrate annual competencies in area of practice
  • Must attend CENN Skills Fairs and complete and return monthly written education updates
  • Must have ability to read, write and understand the English language
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Reminds and/or assists client to perform personal hygiene, including shower, tub, or bed bath, skin and hair care
  • Cues and/or assists in toileting, per established routine
  • Reminds, assists, supervises client to use appropriate assistive devices with walking, including the use of canes and walkers, when applicable
  • Reminds client to self-administer scheduled medication(s)
  • Assists with meal preparation, when required
  • Reminds and engages client to perform prescribed activities
  • Identifies adverse changes in client’s status and reports appropriately
  • Organizes work for completion based on client needs/priorities
  • Observes, reports and documents client care as prescribed on client plan of care
  • Takes vital signs as directed and/or observes client using electronic devices to obtain recordings and documents properly
  • Implements basic infection control procedures, report and documents those procedures concisely, accurately, and in a timely manner
  • Maintains a clean, safe environment, recognizes emergencies, expresses and implements knowledge of emergencyprocedures
  • Meets telephone etiquette expectations.
  • Uses Telephony to clock in and out at client’s residence regularly.  If unable to use client’s phone employee is required to call 804-752-2205 to inform administration.
  • Responsible to retrieve schedule on a consistent basis and follow schedule on a daily basis.  Schedules are distributed every other week and employees are responsible for obtaining their schedule, reviewing their schedule and discussing any conflicts or issues with the scheduling department immediately.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in annual competencies
  • Ensures physical and emotional needs of the client are met
  • Perform client nail and skin care according to company policy and procedures
  • Perform safe transfer techniques and passive range-of-motion exercises
  • Assures client maintains adequate nutrition and fluid intake, documenting appropriately
  • Demonstrates the understanding, skills, and abilities necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the clients served.
  • Performs duties only within scope of practice.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of role in the CENN care team including, but not limited to; appropriate response in emergency situation, behavior that promotes team cooperation and the ability to accept constructive criticism
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication with client and family
  • Maintains client confidentiality at all time
  • Communicates professionally and effectively with other team members of the health care team to provide optimal client care. Demonstrates attitudes and behaviors with others that are courteous and respectful
  • Contributes to overall company function by complying with CENN standards
  • Participates in required educational programs. Identifies own learning needs and pursues educational opportunities to meet these needs
  • Assist in the orientation of new staff, as appropriate
  • Accompanies and/or transports client to/from appointments, errands, etc., as requested
  • Implements other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by employer
  • Carries out tasks with a spirit of cooperation and efficiency when required to temporarily be re-assigned to another client other than primary clients.
  • Responds with a spirit of cooperation and efficiency when required to work an alternative shift, additional hours, and on-call.
  • Attends meetings, training and planning sessions as deemed necessary by company administration.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will spend much of the time actively working with clients. This will require that the employee be able to speak and hear and walk and stand for long periods of time. Individuals in this position are required to exercise standard precautions, use personal protective equipment devices and learn the policies concerning infection control. They will be required to move and transport clients. Consequently, they will need to be able to bend, stoop, push and pull. They must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • May be exposed to abusive, combative people and be able to remain composed and professional in stressful situations.
  • The employee will work as part of a team and will represent CENN to the public. As such, the employee must have the ability to work well with others on a consistent basis.
